Long before he became our friendly mascot, Shampe was part of Choctaw folklore — a towering forest guardian whispered about around campfires. Stories described him as a massive, mysterious creature of the deep woods whose presence reminded travelers to respect the land and its quiet magic. Some said you could hear his whistle in the trees; others believed he watched over those who walked the forest trails.

Today, we’ve reimagined that ancient legend into something friendlier… and a whole lot more fun. Our Shampe isn’t here to scare hunters — he’s here to welcome wanderers. He’s the gentle giant who represents curiosity, comfort, and the spirit of discovery.
